I must have ESPN: black is the new black. Emails are and I am am constantly in black this season! I strive to wear it intelligently, not slavishly, but I think I've worn it to death!!! Spring yellows and blues are a SERIOUS RELIEF!
The jury's out on J.Crew's application of black for spring. Does it pop? Are we refreshed or depressed? Does it work for adults but not so much for kids? (A point well-made by my colleague Heidi Hildenbrand.) At the very least, this treatment gets a conversation going. I'd love to hear what you have to say.

I'm finding the black J.Crew ads a little off-putting. It doesn't really seem to go with their spring "look," and I find it hard to read. In fact, I find the black almost too stark for their preppy image. Too Bauhaus-ian, maybe. (As in, the movement... but I suppose it could apply to the band, too! :)
And it definitely doesn't work for their crewcuts kids' stuff. And while I'm on the subject of crewcuts, why do I receive crewcuts newsletters when I've never shopped for kids, I've never bought anything for kids, and I would never have opted in for a kids clothes mailing list? Boo.
